{{Police has apprehended two people separately in connection with trafficking illicit liquor into the country. }}
Dansira Murekatete was arrested on July 14 from her residence in Jali sector of Gasabo district where 232 litres of kanyanga, an illicit gin was recovered.
Another suspect identified as Gabriel Ndayabaretse was arrested on July 15 along Gatsata-Nyacyonga road with 62 boxes (1078 litres) of chief waragi and 132 litres of kanyanga.
Ndayabaretse was at the time of his arrest transporting the illegal gin in a Toyota Hilux registration number RAC 918H.
They are both currently detained at Gisozi Police station as investigations continue.
Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, Police spokersperson for central region said they had information of the duo’s illegal businesses.
“We received credible information that Ndayabaretse was headed to Kigali from Gatuna with 62 boxes of chief waragi and 132 litres of kanyanga and we mounted a snap-check between Gatsata and Nyacyonga where he was arrested,” Supt. Mbabazi said.
Ndayabaretse, who confessed to the crime argued that it is his first time to deal in this illegal business and begged to be pardoned.
Supt. Mbabazi warned that the force will not relent until all those involved in drug-related crimes are apprehended to face justice.
