Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi has pledged Government support to Mount Meru Soyco Ltd, a soybean and sunflower processing plant that is under construction in Kayonza District of the Eastern Province.
PM was visiting the construction site where he thanked the investors of Mount Meru Soyco Ltd reminding them that their investment is a benefit to the country.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the progress of construction works and promised the Government support.
Dr. Habumuremyi urged the Ministry of Agriculture and animal resources to sensitize farmers to increase the production of soybean to meet the capacity of the plant which is 200 tons per day.
The plant will be processing cooking oil from soybean and sunflower.
Full operation is expected to start in June 2013, at a total cost of around 8 billion Rwandan Francs.
Mount Meru Soyco Ltd is a Public Private Partnership business venture project between East Africa’s leading business house Mount Meru group of companies and 4 other stakeholders including Clinton Hunter Development Initiative (CHDI), Crystal Ventures Ltd, Rwanda Social Security Board and Kayonza District.
