Smuggled livestock drugs intercepted in Kirehe

{Police in Kirehe District have arrested a man identified as Etienne Nzeyimana, 34, in connection with smuggling livestock drugs into the country.}

Nzeyimana was apprehended on August 4 in Rwayikona Cell of Mushikiri Sector, where police recovered boxes of the alleged smuggled veterinary drugs.

The seized smuggled drugs include packets of Albendazole, Oxytetracycline, Murtryp and Super Cyper.

Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi, Police spokesperson for the Eastern region said the arrest of Nzeyimana and subsequent seizure of the smuggled animal drugs followed information from the residents of Rwayikona, who were versed with his illegal business.

“When officers investigating his illegal business went to his drug shop, they asked him to produce supporting documents which he didn’t have but when they pressed on with the interrogations he opened up and told them that he smuggled the drugs from Tanzania,” IP Kayigi said.

The suspect owned a veterinary drug store in Mushikiri.

“Such smuggled drugs can be of harm to livestock and we thank the residents for taking this initiative to report such illegal dealings…to save their livestock from any harm,” he added.

The spokesperson further thanked the residents of the Eastern province for their role in community policing and crime prevention in general.
