SMEs to get MINICOM support

{The Ministry of Trade and Industry has committed to supporting small and medium entrepreneurs faced with the challenge of modern equipment.}

The ministry unveiled the commitment during the 3rd annual meeting between entrepreneurs and MINICOM, after realizing a gap in competitive equipment that would help them produce at low cost per unit which would enable them become more competitive on the local and regional markets.

Some entrepreneurs say their products are appreciated on international markets but lack the capacity to produce in sufficient quantities due to inadequate technologies.
Other entrepreneurs involved in handicraft and leather products believe MINICOM’s donations of modern equipment will boost quantities and quality production.

The Director General of Industry and SMEs at MINICOM, Alex Ruzibukira, says the ministry has intervened to address the issue of modern equipment challenge with long term solutions.

The ministry has launched a program “uruganda iwacu” (industries near our homes) as well as setting measures to connect entrepreneurs with financial institutions to be able to access loans to grow their businesses.

This 3rd annual meeting of entrepreneurs with MINICOM has gathered various businessmen including those in agribusiness, horticulture, among others in a bid to seek common solutions to some of the persistent challenges.
