Senior police officers awarded PhDs

{Among the more than 8500 students graduating from the University of Rwanda this Friday is a police officer to be awarded a PhD. }

Siméon Sebatukura, a lecturer in University of Rwanda will be awarded the PhD degree in Clinical Psychology having successfully conducted a research on the same subject in the last five years. He has been teaching in the university since 2009.

Dr. Sebatukura’s findings have been published in his dissertation titled “Analysis of the Practice of Mental Healthcare in Hospitals of Rwanda” in which he explores how mental health in Rwanda can be improved.

He makes several recommendations including the increment of mental doctors and psychiatrists in district hospitals to work with nurses in addressing mental health challenges.

His findings identified the major causes of mental problems as; trauma, drug abuse (Toxicomania), schizophrenia, epilepsy among others.

Another senior officer to be awarded a PhD in public health is ACP Wilson Rubanzana.
