Sector Executive Secretary charged with burning child found not guilty

Munyarugendo was arrested in April this year on allegations of having impregnated one Sonia Muhawenimana, a spouse to another man with whom they had a child, Kevine Uwikaze, who Munyarugendo was suspected of having got involved in her demise.

Residents of Muko Sector, the area of incidence, say that on Easter Day this year, Muhawenimana with her husband left their house closed with the deceased inside and off they went to drink beer in Muko centre.

Back home from the centre, they found the child having burned to ashes inside the house and said the fire had started from inside the house which prompted the investigation to start.

It is reported that despite her young age, the victim was usually harassed and so much violated by the parents that they, last year, put petrol in her ears.

It’s also reported she once spent three days without her parents knowing her whereabouts until she was found in an uninhabitated house.

In the court proceedings, the prosecution accused Claude Manzi of having plotted to kill the child trying to get rid of evidence that he had fathered the said child.
Prosecution showed evidence of mobile money transactions which were done between Claude Munyarugendo and Marie Therese Nirere so that she could pay gangstars to kill the child.

After the hearing on Friday, the Judge at Musanze Intermediate Court resolved that the official medical results show the deceased, Kevine Uwikaze had no blood relation with the accused Munyurangabo.

The court also decided that there was no ample evidence proving that the defendant paid any money in order to kill the victim, resolving there were no evidence proving that Munyurangabo and the other six co-accused had no role in the murder and the degrading acts on the deceased’s body.

The court resolved that Claude Manzi Munyurangabo and the co-accused are innocent and ruled for their immediate release. Nobody of the accused was in the court to hear the court judgment.
