{Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa – SDGCA which helps African countries to move fast activities envisaging Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has opened doors in Kigali.}
During the launch of SDGs on 24th September 2015 Rwanda was selected to host the headquarter of Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa.
Rwanda was selected after demonstrating outstanding performance in realizing Millenium Development Goals (MDGs).
SDGC started operating to Rwanda in July 2016 in Kigali city.
SDGC/A is an international organization aimed at helping citizens ,governments, non–governmental organizations, schools and commercial organizations to move fast development.
It seeks to capacitate each African country to achieve pledged performance contracts among 17 Pillars of sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).
According to the Director General to the Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A), Dr.Belay Begashaw envisaged goals will be achieved through research and counseling, investment and infrastructure related projects, information sharing and embracing various economic policies.
SDGC/A will also put emphasis in education and building potential for universities and research centers along with expanding technology and creating innovations.
In a press conference held on 1st December 2016, Dr. Begashaw commented on efforts to reach goals where branches will share tasks coordinated by the headquarter based in Kigali.
“The headquarter is based in Kigali. We have two ways to connect our activities on countries’ level. The first is that we have established four excellent centers mainly based in Cape Town of South Africa, Senegal, Nigeria and Nairobi in East Africa,” he said.
It will also delegate particular levels in charge of SDGs in each country. These bodies have been already launched in 10 countries and will be monitored by the excellent center that will be in each corner of Africa.
Activities of this center which was established five months ago will start emerging in a meeting in which it will showcase basic activities in supporting African countries to attain the rapid pace towards development.
The meeting will be held on 27th January 2017. It will also showcase 2016 report and discuss on projects of Africa-India cooperation.
