Kiir who was speaking recently at a function in Juba asserted that the people of this country could solve their problems by themselves if they accept to live as one people.

He said the government would grant amnesty to all who took up arms against the state on conditions they lay down their arms.

The President paid tribute to David Yau Yau and the South Sudan Democratic Movement Cobra Faction, for joining the peace process to end the suffering of the people of South Sudan.

The two groups recently agreed to surrender their arms and work towards national unity and development.

He called on Dr Riek Machar to return to the negotiation table to give peace a chance. Kiir said he was ready to forgive Machar if he worked for the end of hostilities that have left a trail of bloodshed and destruction in the youngest nation in the world.

Chimpreports reports that the President on the other hand paid tribute to President Museveni of Uganda and other partners for contributing troops to protect the South Sudan society and economic installations while monitoring and verifying the implementation of the agreements signed with the armed opposition group.

There have been several cases of sporadic fighting in South Sudan despite Kiir and Machar signing the cessation of hostilities agreement in May in Ethiopia. The two parties are expected by IGAD to form an inclusive and transitional government by mid-August but this is not likely. Machar wants to head the transitional government but Kiir maintains he will not quit unless voted out of power by the people who elected him.
