{Representatives of Canadian Association of Rwandan Youth (CARY) in collaboration with Solid Africa yesterday provided food and drinks to patients at The University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) as part of sharing festivities of New Year and Christmas.}
MakFast, a restaurant located in Kigali city has also involved in the charitable act providing food shared to about 400 patients.
Canadian Association of Rwandan Youth say they have committed to come back in Rwanda to demonstrate kindness and share with those in need.
Alice Ishimwe, the organizer of the charitable action revealed that the association has preferred to help CHUK patients since many of them come from the countryside without companions to bring food which sometimes delays healing.
“Through television talk-shows and documentaries, we have seen a person describing how people walk from afar on foot to bring patients to the hospital; others lack food since the hospital has no means to provide meals. So we decided to provide a helping hand during our stay in Rwanda,” she said.
Ishimwe says that Christmas season is marked with sharing gifts in Canada which she links to the charitable act of providing food for patients.
Mukampabuka Séraphine from Ngororero district, who has spent two months in CHUK looking after her sick child, thanked CARY members for this show of kindness.
“Such charitable deeds bring happiness and proves that people with kind hearts still exist,” she said.
The leader and founder of CARY, Bertrand Bwanakeye, said the activity was organized to show kindness to other Rwandans.
Talking to IGIHE Bertrand Bwanakeye said; “As a youth living in Canada, it is necessary to demonstrate our contribution to the welfare of Rwandans and mobilize rich people to show kindness.”
Isabelle Kamiliza, the leader of Solid’Africa which usually provides food to CHUK patients said that they used to feed 300 patients but the number has grown to 400.
CARY was launched by the Rwandan youth living in Canada, in Ottawa 2011, with the aim of supporting activities that empower and address every-day-life challenges.
It has branches in different cities of Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton with more than 1000 members composed of Rwandans and their friends.
