{{On 04th July 2014, Rwandans living in Burundi, diplomats, Burundi Government officials and friends of Rwanda in Burundi met in a reception organized in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Rwanda.}}
The event took place at Residence Ubuntu Hotel where about 300 people responded positively to the invitation.
The Government was represented by Hon.Laurent Kavakure, Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation, among other dignitaries.
Speaking to Rwandans and other guests, RUGIRA Amandin, Ambassador of Rwanda in Burundi, gave briefly the history of the date of 04th July 1994, and the progress which was done in Rwanda from that time to now, especially in socio-economic and security domains.
Basing his statement on tangible figures, he showed how Rwanda has been in progress year after year and said that Rwandans and his Leadership are ready to continue the liberation struggle in order to meet the Vision 2020 targets.
He thanked the Government of Burundi and the President Nkurunziza Pierre for allowing him to present his credentials only short time after reaching his post of accreditation.
He then said that the spirit of good neighbor will continue to be his motivation during his term in Burundi.
Before inviting the Guest of Honour to deliver his speech, he thanked some Rwandans residing in Burundi, who showed the patriotism spirit by financing themselves all the costs related to this reception.
The guest of Honour and the Representative of the Government of Burundi, Minister Kavakure Laurent, hailed Rwandans in general and the Leadership of Rwanda led by President Paul Kagame in particular for defeating the evil by liberating Rwanda in 1994 and for the development achievements during the 20 years.
He said that the Government of Burundi is committed to continue to strengthen the existing good relations existing between Rwanda and Burundi.
He assured that Burundi will conduct fair, transparent and democratic elections next year (2015) and asked the Region and the International community to assist Burundi in various ways in this hard exercise.
The event was also characterized by songs and dances performed by Rwandan Cultural Troupe INGANJI.
