Youths Killed During Genocide Honoured

{{Thousands of Rwandan Youth On Friday gathered at Petit Stade to honour youths killed during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi that claimed a million lives.}}

The occasion has been organized by Miss Rwanda 2012 in partnership with the National Youth Council under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and ICT; where staff of institutions, Misses and Rwandan artists paid tribute to the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi.

The ceremony began at the Gisozi Memorial Centre where the delegation laid a wreath on the graves of the hundreds of thousands of Genocide victims buried at the Memorial.

After paying respect to the victims, the delegation went to Petit Stade at Remera in a commemoration night vigil named “Ijoro ryo Kwibuka” of to remember fellow youth who were killed in the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

In his remarks, the Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana noted that Rwandan Youth can learn from the history and take a responsibility to build the country.

He added that the youth can support older people who survived the genocide.

Miss Rwanda 2012, Mutesi Aurore said that youth can work hard to build better country; “We are the future of the country, it is our duty to make our country perfect” Miss Aurore noted.

This ceremony marked by performances of different artists to honor victims of the genocide.

This year’s memorial is held under the theme “Let’s remember the Genocide against the Tutsi as we strive for self-reliance.”

In a televised address to the nation last week President Kagame said that “Remembrance of the genocide is an obligation for every Rwandan.

It is also falls on us to teach and pass on that responsibility to the youth so that they, in turn, can pass it on to successive generations.”
