Rwandan peacekeepers decorated in Darfur

{Rwandan military (Rwanbatt 47) and Police peacekeepers serving under United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in El-Fasher were decorated with medals in recognition of their professionalism and gallant service in carrying out their duties. The ceremony was held at El-Fasher on 4 July 2016.}

Presiding over the event, the UN Secretary General Joint Special Representative (JSR) in Sudan Mr. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibi, thanked the Peacekeepers for honouring the mission mandate.

“UNAMID congratulates you; we appreciate so much the eleven months you have spent here. UNAMID leadership is proud of the performance you have exhibited while serving in this mission, congratulations,” the JSR said.

He commended Rwandan peacekeepers for discipline, and thank Rwanda for the great contribution for peace around the world.

The Rwanbatt 47 Commanding officer, Lt Col Augustine Muvunyi thanked officers, Men and women for having demonstrated high level of discipline. He promised that the peacekeepers will maintain the high standards of discipline.

The high profile guests present were the UNAMID force commander Lt Gen. FM Kamanzi, the UNAMID Police commissioner, Madam, Priscilla Makotose, UNAMID senior officials, Military and Police peacekeepers from different countries.
