Rwandan diaspora in South Africa celebrate family day

{The Rwandan diaspora in South Africa on the March 26 2016 celebrated the Rwandan Family Day. This was a successful event with both Rwandan Diaspora members and Friends of Rwanda from Kenya, Namibia and South Africa gathering to celebrate unity, solidarity and the family unit. Everyone participated in games availed at the occasion. }

Rwandan students in South Africa also took part in the event to support the solidarity and unity within the Rwandan community in South Africa.

The women’s commissions chair Ps. Catharine Muisige who initiated the project within the committee, reiterated Madam Karega on the importance of maintaining the Rwandan culture. A few guests among the attending youth were nominated to assist in the training children on the Rwandan dance and culture.

For the years, the Rwandan women in diaspora have been consistently visiting families who have been blessed with new born babies (Guhemba) as well as visiting families bereaved of their loved ones.

Madam Netty Karega, wife to HE Vincent Karega, The High Commissioner of Rwanda in South Africa, highlighted in her speech that Rwandans must continue striving to keep their culture wherever they go. She also encouraged the Rwandan community to continue visiting one another, teaching dance and culture to their children and recommended to them to organize several meets for socialization purposes.

The chair of the diaspora in South Africa, Mr. Edison Ndiyibizi, emphasized to the guests that it was important to ensure awareness of maintaining social cohesion within communities.
