ZAMBIA’s ambassador to Rwanda Judith Kapijimpanga says the launch of a direct flight from Rwanda to Lusaka by RwandAir will enhance trade relations and future investment opportunities between the two countries.
RwandAir, last month in partnership with Proflight Zambia, signed a codeshare agreement on the Lusaka – Johannesburg route where RwandaAir will be the operating carrier and Proflight Zambia as the marketing carrier.
Mrs Kapijimpanga said the launch of the direct flight will also enhance tourisms activities in the country.
She said this during the official launch of RwandAir’s direct flight to Lusaka on Friday, that Zambia is open for investment opportunities in the region, and that this will bring about economic development and contribute significantly to the gross domestic product.
“Having a direct flight from Rwanda to Lusaka will enhance trade relations, the flow of tourists in the country, and it will also open up new future investment opportunities for the two countries. We are talking about Intra-African Trade. This is just the beginning, we will see more investment activities in the future,” she said.
At the same event, Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga commended RwandAir for launching the direct flight from Rwanda to Lusaka as this will expose Zambia to other African countries.
Mr Mukanga said Zambia will learn from Rwanda, especially that the country is still in talks to establish a national airline.
He said when he officially launched the RwandAir direct flight to Lusaka, that it will also enhance commercial and social agreements that the two countries have been sharing over the years.
And RwandAir chief executive officer John Mirenge said the development will open up new business and economic opportunities between both nations while strengthening existing ones.
He said the flight, has been operating three times a week, is expected to start flying to Lusaka on a daily basis
