{Senior police chiefs from Rwanda and Turkey Thursday vowed to strengthen collaboration in the fight against cyber-crime, money laundering, terrorism as well as the proliferation of light weapons.}
The Spokesperson of the Rwandan Police, Damas Gatare said both countries’ police put forward the idea in a declaration adopted at the close of a one-day meeting on policing exchange and cooperation among security agencies from Rwanda and Turkey.
It is expected that forensic experts of the Turkish police will especially provide training to their Rwandan counterparts in that particular area of specialization.
The police organs from the two countries have also agreed to improve training and institutional capacity-building as well as collaborate in the development of an appropriate infrastructure for the collection and sharing of relevant security information in trans-border and organized crimes, it said.
According to the Rwandan police spokesperson, it was also proposed to set up a liaison mechanism to exchange intelligence and carry out close cooperation in unconventional security areas such as terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, organized crime, cross-border crimes and computer crimes.
The visit of a senior delegation of Turkish police officers comes a few days after Rwandan security agents arrested at least 150 people in connection with kidnapping young girls and forcing them into prostitution in several countries across the world since the operation began earlier this year.
In Rwanda, trafficking for sexual exploitation is linked to South Asian countries mainly because it has a ready market thanks to its strong economy.
On the list of countries pointed out in this saga is neighboring Uganda which is described as a source and destination country for Rwandan women subjected to forced prostitution.
