Rwanda Targets 60% TVET Enrolment by 2017

Rwanda targets to increase enrolment of students into Technical and Vocational institutions to 60% by 2017.

Currently Rwanda has over 283 Technical and Vocational training centres offering practical courses.

This has made an increase of 40% TVET enrolment referring to the total number of professional courses offered in Rwanda.

The Director General of Workforce Development Authority (WDA) Jerome Gasana has said Rwandans must change their mindset towards technical schools noting that technical professions contribute to the county’s social economic development.

During a Press Conference on the preparation of the 2012 TVET Expo, Gasana said:” Many people think that a technician is someone dirty; we want to make our technicians feel respected and even upgrade them like the ones of German.”

In a scheduled TVET Expo, about 150 private sector companies will attend including vocation and training centres students who will be showcasing their products to the public.

The Expo starts today 1st November to 6th November, 2012
