Rwanda Targets 11.5% Growth by 2020

{{The Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Claver Gatete has said under EDPRS-2 and revised Vision 2020 targets, Rwanda is set to increase GDP up to 11.5% and $1200 GDP per capita by 2020.

Gatete made the announcement at the 10th Leadership retreat currently ongoing at Gatsibo district.}}

A top official previously said growth would slow to 7.1% in 2013 after donors cut or delayed aid over a row with Kigali.

But the government’s latest projection suggests it hopes the economy will prosper despite the aid shock

As tweets of the official Government twitter accounts have showed, EDPRS 2 will focus on economic transformation, rural development, productivity, youth employment and accountable governance.

EDPRS2 aims at eliminating extreme poverty and poverty reduced by 20%.

Vision 2020 targets also includes 1.8 million new off-farm jobs and a 35% of population dueling in urban areas.

Meanwhile, President Paul Kagame told over 300 government officials at the retreat to enhance their coordination to enable an increased growth.

“Without working together, we will not achieve our full potential and will not reach the targets we have set for ourselves. If you don’t let your strengths complement each other, we will only achieve a small percentage of our goals,” He said.

“We must improve on working together…no one can achieve results without working as part of a team.”

He said Without coordination and teamwork among government agencies and other actors, the country would not achieve the targeted 11.5 per cent annual growth rate as envisaged under the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS) II.
