Rwanda scrutinize 200 people for Heroism Merit

{Rwanda is scrutinizing a list of 200 people to find out whether they qualify to become National Heroes owing to their deeds.}

An Official from the Chancellery for Heroes, National Order and Decoration of Honour (Cheno) has said the study is underway to identify the achievements that have been made by 200 people who should be in the category of National Heroes.

Cheno’s President Augustin Iyamuremye made the revelation to the media during a press conference on Rwanda’s celebration for the 21st time of the National Heroes Day which takes place on the 1st February 2015.

“We now have over 200 people being scrutinized.” Iyamuremye said

He said fourteen names should be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval of their recognition as National Heroes. “But it must be extremely cautious in this decision, “he said.

Meanwhile Iyamuremye puts it clear that there is no time limit for the Heroes search.

“Anyone with information on a Rwandan deserving to be classified as National Heroe can give it.”

The Minister of Sport and Culture, Joseph Habineza, said that heroism is a quality that is first acquired from the family and daily life to the collective and national levels.

He urged Rwandans to grow and develop this desirable quality.

IGIHE has learned that the theme for this year is “Heroism of Rwandans, our dignity and our value.”

The event will be celebrated locally. So far, 53 National Heroes are recognized in Rwanda.

The country’s National Heroes classed into three categories: Imanzi, Imena and finally comes the INGENZI category for those who made outstanding actions.
