Rwanda’s Progress , Hope of Africa’s Capacity-EA Standby Force Official

{{The Head of Civilian Component in Eastern Africa Standby Force, Benediste Hoareau said that Rwanda’s post genocide progress gives hope for Africa‘s capacity and her Leaders to change things. }}

“When you look at the progress in Kigali and the countryside today you cannot imagine it is the same Rwanda that experienced the 1994 horrendous genocide against the Tutsi. It gives me great hope about the capacity of Africa and capacity of African Leaders when they are willing to change things”.

Benediste Hoareau stated this on 10 March 2013 after visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial Center together with his colleagues who are undertaking a two week course on “Political Affairs” in Rwanda Peace Academy, Nyakinama, Musanze district.

He underlined that with good leadership, vision, determination of the people and human resilience, we can turn things around and change it for the better.

Genocide should never ever happen again elsewhere. He testified that visiting the genocide memorial was very educative, emotional and very realistic.

Kaguriza Deo from Burundi said that the genocide is a very sad phenomenon (“akamaramaza”) and that no one can find its explanations. He added that ethnicity and discrimination should be banned, and nobody should be subject to discrimination.

The Political Affairs Course is attended by 28 participants from Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia and Republic of Sudan, Uganda as well as the Eastern Africa Standby Force Coordination Mechanism (EASFCOM) officials.

The course was organized by Rwanda Peace Academy in partnership with the EASFCOM and sponsored by GIZ, the Germany International Cooperation.
