Rwanda’s Population Increased by 30% in a Decade

Rwanda’s population has grown to 10,537, 222, up from 8.2 million people in 2002. This relates to 30% increase in ten years.

The statistics were announced Thursday by Finance and Economic Planning minister John Rwangombwa.

Releasing preliminary results of the fourth Population and Housing Census, conducted in August, the minister said annual average growth rate stood at 2.6%, down from 2.9% ten years ago and this implies that Rwanda’s population control mechanisms are paying off.

Being most populated, Population in Eastern Province has increased due to different factors including those who went there for farming reasons.

Currently residents of Kigali increased up to 1,135,428 having rebounded from 765,325 in 2002.

Eastern province counts 2,600,814 citizens shifting from 1,700,137 in 2002.

The average population per Km increased to 416 while in 2002 they were 321.
