The Minister of Trade and Industry Francois Kanimba has said Rwanda’s economy continues to grow due to accelerated and sustained by a dynamic and competitive private sector.
The Minister was yesterday presenting MINICOM’s 2012 achievements.
Commenting on industrial performance the Minister said from January to November 2012, Turnover of industries increased by 33.9% compared to the same period in 2011.
It was noted that merchandise exports from both formal and informal trade accounted for US$ 467M and imports US$1,801 billion up 25.85% and 14% respectively over 2011.
Between January and October 2012, Rwanda’s total merchandise trade was US$2.47 billion.
GDP contribution of Agriculture, Industry and Services are: 4%, 6%, and 12% respectively.
To date average GDP Growth 2011-2012 at national level stands at 7.7%.
Among other things, Trade Minister said that in Rwanda 287 standards were harmonized with EAC in 2012 as against 212 standards in 2011, representing an increase of 35.4%.
Rwanda Bureau of Standards reviewed 115 standards in 2012 and 96 standards were developed in 2012 as against 80 in 2011, equivalent to 20% increase.
