Rwanda’s Bimpe Israel elected new IPSF AfRO Region chairperson

{Rwanda Pharmaceutical Students Association (RPSA) president, on this Wednesday Israel Bimpe has been elected new chairperson of IPSF African Region Office at the ongoing IPSF World Congress in India.}

The 61st IPSF World Congress started on July 30 in Hyderabad, India and will run through up to August 9. IPSF stands for International Pharmaceutical Students Federation, has its headquarters in Netherlands and now represents over 400.000 pharmacy students from 90 countries worldwide.

The outgoing RPSA president and IPSF Afro regional relations officer Mr. Bimpe claims the African region presidency after beating off stiff challenge from Richmond Tche from Ivory Coast who was also contending for the position.

After being appointed chairperson, Mr. Bimpe pledged to engage pharmacy students in joining the fight against Ebola outbreak in West Africa, to run anti-microbial resistance campaigns as well as fighting drug counterfeits among others.
The new elect chairperson, Israel Bimpe replaces Prosper Maposa from Zimbabwe who has been holding the office since 2013.
Past commitments

The fifth-year pharmacy student at University of Rwanda, Bimpe has been serving Rwanda Pharmaceutical Students Association for the last two years, first as Students Exchange Program officer (2013/2014) and later as president for the 2014/15 academic year.
He was Rwanda’s lonely delegate at the third IPSF African Pharmaceutical Symposium in Zimbabwe in July 2014 from where he filed and won the bid for Rwanda to host the fourth edition that was held at University of Rwanda’s headquarters, Gikondo from July 9 to 13, 2015.

During the Zimbabwe symposium, the soft spoken Bimpe was also named the Regional Relations Officer of the IPSF African Region for the 2014/2015 term. In June this year, he attended and represented IPSF at the 68th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

Rwanda has dominated elections with Regional Relations Officer Marie Ange Uwase and Regional Media and Publications officer Rene Ngaboyisonga also being part of the newly elected executive committee of the IPSF African Region office. Aniekan Ekpenyong of Nigeria was named secretary.

The 4th IPSF African Pharmaceutical Symposium in Kigali was tipped the best Africa has ever had in history since the inaugural edition in 2012 with Over 350 participants from 12 African countries in attendance.

Kenya will be hosting the 2016 edition in Mombasa while Ghana has been endorsed to organize the sixth edition in 2017.
