{The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana has commended the professionalism and conduct of Rwandan officers in peacekeeping missions, which he said keeps the force and the country in general, on a good and respectable side. }

IGP Gasana made the remarks on February 12 while debriefing 11 Police officers at the force’s headquarters in Kacyiru, who returned last Sunday from a one year peacekeeping under the United Nations Operations in Ivory Coast in a French acronym ONUCI.

The Police Chief thanked them for representing the country ably and urged them to maintain the spirit even in their new assignments back home.

He further appealed to them to use the experience and acquired skills to excel in their new tasks.

During their spell in the West African nation, the Individual Police Officers (IPOs), they acted as trainers especially against gender violence, advisers and mentors of the local police force.

Meanwhile other 31 IPOs are expected to depart for peacekeeping missions in Haiti, Central African Republic (CAR) and Ivory Coast.

RNP, which started its peacekeeping missions in 2005, maintains about 600 officers in eight missions currently.

Other missions are Liberia, South Sudan, Abyei, Sudan and Mali.
