Rwanda National Police (RNP) has inaugurated a new facility in Kigali worth over Rwf1.5 billion which will accommodate Central region police offices as a move to consolidate its services.
The facility branded ‘Kigali Metropolitan Police Headquarters’ located in Remera Sector of Gasabo District was officially unveiled on April 21 in an event presided over by the Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana.
The occasion was also graced by the Mayor of the City of Kigali, Fidel Ndayisaba, Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, Amb. Valens Munyabagisha, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Security and other senior officers and local leaders, among others.
Minister Harerimana said that the new building comes to address the issue of lack of enough office space and replaces “old fashioned Police facilities as it was traditionally known.”
The metropolitan house, he said, will ease Police services to the public since varied services will now be offered in one place.
The 25-office block will accommodate offices of the Metropolitan Police Commander (Regional Police Commander-central), Gasabo District Police Unit (DPU) and Remera Police Station, among others.
“This building is in line with the vision of His Excellency President Paul Kagame of erecting modern facilities,” Minister Harerimana noted.
The Deputy Commissioner General of Police, Stanley Nsabimana, the Commissioner for Engineering in RNP, said the three storied facility was built on the ordinary police budget.
Chief Supt. Celestin Twahirwa, RNP spokesperson said that the unveiled block is one of several others that will be built in provinces and districts in near future.
“This will improve the quality of services police delivers to the public given the conducive environment, safety and security features fitted with the facility including fire exit, surveillance cameras and many others,” CSP Twahirwa said.
