Rwanda Peacekeepers in South Sudan hand over a Primary School to local authority

{Rwanda Peacekeepers serving under UNMISS (United Mission in South Sudan) inaugurated and handed over a school to the Leadership of Juba county in Central Equatorial State, Republic of South Sudan. The Kapuri Primary School constructed by the Peacekeepers comprises of 8 classrooms, 2 staff rooms, water and sanitation facilities.}

Col M Nkangura, UNMISS Rwandan Contingent commander said the school is a result of collaborative efforts and funding of UNMISS leadership through Quick Impact Project (QIP), Rwandan contingent and Rwandan community in South Sudan, UNICEF, leadership of Juba county, Northern Bari Payam and Rombur community. He noted that the school was constructed in six months at the cost of 79,213 USD which is only 36% of the estimated cost. “This was possible due to application of community work “UMUGANDA” that reduced the initial estimate cost considerably”, he said.

The Guest of honor, Hon William Ater Maciek, Advisor to the South Sudan Minister of education science and technology who represented the Minister in the function hailed the initiative of QIP and Community work “UMUGANDA” carried out by UNMISS Rwandan Contingent and their commitment in protecting the rights of pupils who were learning under trees.

The UNMISS Representative, Senior Col MA Ning who is also the UNMISS Commander, Sector South, said that “education is a key factor contributing to lasting peace in South Sudan and elsewhere on the continent “.

The School inaugurated was initiated by UNMISS Rwanda Peacekeepers to facilitate the implementation of UNMISS Mandate of protection of civilians.
