Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda National Police and Rwandan community in Abyei together with Sudan and South Sudan nationals and other international staff serving in United Nations Interim security forces for Abyei (UNISFA) commemorated the Genocide against Tutsi on 7 April 2016.
The commemoration held under the theme “Kwibuka22: Fighting Genocide Ideology was presided over by UNISFA Force commander Maj Gen Hassen Ebrahim Mussa acting as the Head of Mission.
Speaking during the commemoration, Gen Hassen Ebrahim Mussa paid tribute to the victims of genocide against Tutsi and reiterated the need to fight against genocide ideology.
He urged governments, the justice sector workers and civil society to stand firm against hate speech, division and violence. “Genocide is not a single event; it is part of a process that takes time and preparation, no part of the world is immune”, he underlined.
He further commended UN member states in the region and beyond for their continued efforts to arrest and hand over remaining fugitives to fight impunity.
