Rwanda Peacekeepers awarded peacekeeping medals

{The AU-UN Hybrid Peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has awarded Rwanda Defence Forces peacekeepers (Rwanbatt 41) jointly with the Rwanda Police Contingent (Police Advisors) with UN Peacekeeping Medals in recognition of the job well done. The event was held at El Fasher Super Camp and officiated by the Deputy Joint Special Representative Amb. Abiodun OLUREMI BASHUA (DJSR).}

The DJSR commended Rwanda peacekeepers for the job well done in Darfur. He said that Rwandan contingents are exemplary across the global in peacekeeping operations and thanked them for their dedication. Amb. Abiodun OLUREMI BASHUA said he very much admired officers and men of both Rwanda Military and Police that were awarded for their achievement. “It is not mere achievement, it is merited and deserved” the DJSR said. He urged the medalists wherever they will be to continue to serve excellently and continuously with purpose.

Rwanbatt41 Commanding Officer as well as Contingent Commander, Col SK BAGUMA applauded the Officers, Men and Women of Rwanbatt41 and Rwanda Police to have demonstrated high level of discipline, dedication to duty, commitment and above all unity of effort.

“You have made me proud as a Commander. You stood out and deprived yourselves of sleep and leisure, enduring both harsh high temperatures during the day and deprived of sleep at night to allow others to sleep soundly. You stood on the towers of the Super Camp and other UN facilities to provide us with the blanket of freedom under which many people sleep, in order to wake up next morning to soundly continue implementing the mission mandate” said Col Baguma.

He assured people of Darfur that, Rwandan peacekeepers will continue with the protection of civilians according to the UNAMID Mandate.

ACP Celestin TWAHIRWA thanked Guest of Honour and all guests present for making the event success. “I am very much aware of your very busy schedules but you managed to spare time for this event of honoring Rwanda Peacekeepers” said ACP TWAHIRWA.

Apart from Rwanda peacekeepers, over 50 staff officers from different country were also decorated.

The high profile Guests present were the Rwanda Chargé d’Affaires Mr Ismail KAJUGIRO SHYAKA, UNAMID Force Commander, Lt Gen. Paul MELLA, Police Commissioner, Madam Hester Andriana Paneras, Hon. Adam Mohamed Hamid the Deputy Wali and Minister for Agriculture North Darfur and Brig. Gen. F. SAFARI the UNAMID Force Chief of Staff, among others.
