A two-week course on ‘Security Sector Reform’ (SSR) organized jointly by the Rwanda Peace Academy, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan – Integrated Mission Training Centre (UNMISS – IMTC) opens in Nyakinama tomorrow, Monday, 4th February 2013 and is scheduled to end on 15th February 2013.
The training will target 20 UNMISS staff. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the national staff working with UNMISS.
The overall objective of the course is to discuss the potential role of practitioners of a national security sector reform process, apply soft skills required to engage in SSR, and identify key lessons from practical SSR experience.
In addition to the formal training, the course participants will have some time off to visit Rubavu district, Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre and to tour the City of Kigali.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Brig Gen Jack Nziza will preside over the opening ceremony.
