{The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Ambassador Gatete Claver has said that Rwanda is in talks with Northern Corridor countries and Tanzania in the central corridor to work on projects that require urgent implementation. He revealed this yesterday in a press briefing.}
He said that the upcoming summit of head of states from Northern Corridor expected to be held in Kenya in July will evaluate the scale to which these projects are being executed.
He has revealed amidst media report that Minister Gatete said that Rwanda left Northern Corridor Project of standard gauge railway from Mombasa-Kampala to Kigali that the project would be expensive, difficult to execute and delayed.
“Talks are ongoing about projects to be implemented including the standard gauge railway. We need both the Northern corridor and Central corridor from Tanzania.I don’t know from where the reporter obtained information that we left Northern Corridor project. The cause remains unknown,” added Gatete.
Rwanda expects to import 400 MW of electricity from Ethiopia and 30MW from Kenya along with the project of building a fuel pipeline all of which will be assessed in July during the summit of heads of states.
