Rwanda Mining Association has been granted a period of 5 year extension of its license to operate in Wolfram exploitation.
The license was signed by Rwandan Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Stanislas Kamanzi.
The move follows recent talks by the RMA leader, Jean Malik Kalima with RDB (Rwanda Development Board) and the signing took place in the presence of Claire Akamanzi, CEO of RDB and Minister Stanislas Kamanzi on the one hand and John Malik Kalima of RMA
This resumption of negotiations between the Company and the Ministry of Natural Resources, which plays a regulatory role in the mining sector, is in line with eradicating the disorder found in the production of precious stones in Rwanda.
To the question of why there are many illegal prospectors in this area, the Minister stated:
“We do not allow such illegal activities in the mining sector. That is why any investor wishing to engage in such activity, we do a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with him which gives a specific right.
It has a precise specification to predict all provisions so that there are no miners who die in the tunnels because of possible landslides.
This MOU also specifies how they will behave in the face of environmental protection on the one hand and the lives and activities of citizens around the mines. ”
“It’s very nice to sign the MOU because it precises what I have to comply. It shows my rights and obligations including what is forbidden to do, “said Kalima after the signing of the renewal of agreements with the Ministry concerned.
Kalima praises perfect understanding, support and care that governments provide to investors.
To date, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said that more than 400 mining companies exploiting gold, coltan and wolfram on the territory of Rwanda.
However, all these minerals are exported as raw almost. The ministry says it has in its programs that these minerals can be exported with a certain value.
