Rwanda Military Hospital provides medical care to 2000 youth at Iwawa

A team of medics from Rwanda Military Hospital in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) are offering free medical services to more than 2050 youth undertaking vocational training and rehabilitation at Iwawa Rehabilitation and Vocational Skills Development Centre. The medical services the youth at Iwawa will benefit from include voluntary medical male circumcision and HIV/AIDS voluntary testing and counseling.

The exercise is the framework of Rwanda Defence Force Army Week Medical Outreach that was officially launched on 20 May 2016.

Brig Gen Emmanuel Ndahiro the Commandant of Rwanda Military Hospital, at the official opening ceremony of this Army week, urged the youth at Iwawa, beneficiary of the services, to remain responsible for their lives by maintaining discipline, giving value to the rehabilitation training programme as well hoping for a brighter future.

He assured that Rwanda Military Hospital will continue to support all initiatives aimed at proving decent health care to the Youth under rehabilitation process at Iwawa. He further thanked all Partners of this special army medical outreach.

The Coordinator of Iwawa Rehabilitation and Vocational Skills Development Centre, Niyongabo Nicolas, expressed his gratitude to the RDF, Rwanda Military Hospital and Partners for their invaluable support to the Youth at Iwawa.

Dr RUGWIZANGOGA Eugene from Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO), an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University in the US hailed the partnership between the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth and ICT and Ministry Defence in promoting health care to the youth. He told the youth at Iwawa that male circumcision reduces infection risk at 60%.

Dr RUGIRA Eugene of Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) explained to the Youth that the Government brought them to Iwawa Rehabilitation Centre for the good reason of promoting their good.

The Special Army week medical outreach at Iwawa that effectively started on 17 May 2016 is conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Youth and ICT and the JHPIEGO. It will be concluded on 24 May 2016.
