Rwanda Military Hospital launches Audiology Center

{{Rwanda Military Hospital (RMH) officially opened the first ever Audiology Center in Rwanda with hearing aid fitting services}}.

According to RMH authorities, the hearing aids acquired are digitalised and will reduce the cost of the service.

“We are very happy that we are able now to perform hearing aid fitting services in Rwanda Military Hospital, it’s new in Rwanda, patients used to travel to Kenya, South Africa or Europe for such medical services, there is high demand and we have decided to bring the service near to the needy, said Col Dr Eugene Twagirumukiza, the Head of heath care related to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department at Rwanda Military Hospital.

He said that RMH has fitted the modern hearing aids to 27 people with hearing loss supported by Genocide Survivors Fund (FARG).

The cost of the service is estimated to 300,000 Rwandan francs, if done in the country. The cheapest hearing aid at RMH is $320.

One of the beneficiaries of this service, Nyirangare Emerita (87) answering some testing questions said that she is happy to recover her hearing lost since 1994.

She thanked each and everyone who helped her.

The Head of ENT Department noted that the Hospital has the capacity of fitting the modern hearing aid to 10 patients per day, adding that the demand of the devices remains high; “we have started receiving even demand from Burundi”.
