{Rwanda Military Hospital employees along with Niboyi Peace Village orphans conducted a walk to remember genocide against the Tutsi on 15 April 2016.}

The walk to remember started from IPRC Kicukiro known as ETO Kicukiro to Nyanza Genocide memorial where they paid tribute to the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Sofia Musabeyezu representing Ibuka association explained that 11,000 victims were laid to rest in Nyanza memorial site. The victims were killed by former government forces and militia Interahamwe after they were abandoned by UN forces in Rwanda, MINUAR. “This memorial is a symbol of how International Community abandoned Rwanda during the genocide against Tutsi” she said.

Rwanda Military Hospital employees also visited the orphans at their homes in Niboyi Peace village. Uwimana Catherine and Uwantege Egidia gave testimonies describing the hard times they went through as young teenagers at that time when their parents and relatives were cruelly killed at their eyes by Interahamwe and former governments’ forces.

The orphans thanked Rwanda Patriotic Army under the leadership of his H.E President Kagame that rescued them from the hands of the killers. They thanked RMH that provide medical care and other support such as paying health insurance to them. “We are very grateful to your kindness and feel comforted when we see how our military care for our lives” said Claude Niyongira speaking on behalf of the 98 survivors who live at Niboyi Peace Village

The Commandant of Rwanda Military Hospital, Brig Gen Dr. E Ndahiro condemned the perpetrators of genocide describing their acts as inhuman and absurd. He emphasized that there is a need to remember the genocide against Tutsi to honor the victims and fight against the genocide ideology and denials. “We remember in order to remain vigilant so that no one can come and bring the country back to the bad history that we went through’’ he said. He promised continuous support to the orphans.

RMH gets time every year to be with Niboyi Peace Village orphans while visiting them, as a sign of showing them love and solidarity.
