The Government of Rwanda has prioritized improving business licensing regime with the objective of reducing the administrative and regulatory burden it poses to business.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry, with the support of the Investment Climate Advisory Services of the World Bank Group, has launched a Business Licensing Portal (www.businesslicenses.gov.rw), a new online portal to ease access to Information on Business Licenses delivered in Rwanda.
This web site will be the Rwandan Government’s authoritative online source for entrepreneurs seeking information about the licenses and permits required to establish and operate their businesses.
Speaking at the launching Ceremony, the Minister of Trade and Industry, François Kanimba noted that the online registry of business-related licenses (Business Licensing Portal) will reduce regulatory costs of compliance and risks to businesses through improved availability of authoritative information on licenses.
The new portal will also improve accountability and reduce opportunities for corruption, improve transparency through one-stop-access to all relevant information, supplement traditional legal gazettes, provide a basis for ongoing regulatory reviews and monitoring of regulatory performance.
It will also reduce obstacles to doing business, create certainty for businesses and provide the basis for eventual online regulatory transactions through a Government-to-Business (G2B) services portal.
Kanimba said,“This user friendly site demonstrates Rwanda’s commitment to going beyond the Doing Business Business Ranking and Indicators and streamline all parts of the business life for our private sector”The Minster commented.
He added that the initial version of the Business Licensing Portal will provide detailed information on the valid licenses and associated formalities; subsequent versions of the service may offer the ability to apply and pay for licenses online.
The government is committed to improving further, the ease of doing business and streamlines the licensing regime with the Business Licensing Portal as part of Rwanda’s investment climate reform agenda.
The Business Licensing Portal will compile a comprehensive inventory of all national-level business licenses in Rwanda, including information about the legal basis, procedures, revenues, fees and costs for each individual license.
