The two-day TICAD meeting was co-chaired by Japan and Rwanda Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Taromp Kono.
While in Japan, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe met with Hiroshi Kato, Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with whom they discussed cooperation between the two countries. He also met with Parliamentary Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kiyoto Tseuji.
The TICAD Ministerial Meeting was ended with a press conference with Minister Kono Taromp and other co-organisers after which a logo of the TICAD 7 Summit, scheduled in Yokohama in August 2019, was unveiled.
During the 2-day meeting it was agreed that; A TICAD summit will take place in Yokohama August 2019 and to ensuring fiscal health and loan repayment capability of recipient nations as steps towards sustainable development.
“We have discussed several issues; the trends and challenges since TICAD 6 Summit that was last held in Nairobi and economic transformation for inclusive growth. We also discussed Healthy and Sustainable Growth for Human Security and lastly, Strengthening Connectivity in Africa and beyond.” Ambassador Nduhungirehe said.
The ministers said their nations will accelerate efforts to improve the business environment to attract investment from the public and private sectors.
Japan’s Foreign Minister Taro Kono, stressed that Japan will promote quality infrastructure projects with transparency and that Japan and China are considering economic cooperation in third countries where they will work together in implementing some projects in Africa.
