Rwanda Hailed on Efforts Against Drug Trafficking

Dr. Francis K. Sang has commended Rwanda for having demonstrated its willingness and courage in the struggle against drug trafficking and the proliferation of SALW.

He further emphasized that the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) as sub-regional organization responsible for managing and coordinating the fight against offenses relating to the manufacture, possession, trade and the illegal use of weapons, ammunition,explosives and sensitive materials (nuclear, biological, chemical), regardless of the field of activity: organized crime, terrorism, crime in sensitive areas, etc.., all batteries will start to stop the trafficking and proliferation of small arms in the 15 countries of the organization first, and throughout the African continent then.

The Ministry of Security has submitted 26 October 2011, a National Plan of Action on Small Arms and Small Arms (SALW).

The Deputy Inspector General of the National Police, Stanley Nsabimana, Special Envoy of the Minister of Security, said that the plan in question identifies strategies to adopt in order to fight against the proliferation of illicit SALW in Rwanda.

He stated the reasons for their proliferation, namely ease of wear, ease of use, ease of concealment, … In addition, he said, the plan emphasizes currently in Rwanda the spread of small arms is decreasing due to the awareness of the holders of regular weapons illegally, to voluntarily surrender to security authorities as soon as possible.

He added that the Chiefs of Police of African States at the international conference held in Kigali,Interpol, gave a nod to President Paul Kagame on security that prevails throughout the national territory, why they decided to emulate Rwanda in the fight against the proliferation of small arms.
