{On the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Claver Gatete held bilateral discussions with European Union (EU) Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Mr. Neven Mimica.}
The meeting focused on the on-going cooperation between EU and Rwanda particularly in areas of agriculture and energy. The two also discussed a wide range of issues including EU’s support in regional programs such as Rusizi 3 and the regional development programs in partnership with World Bank and African Development Bank (AfDB).
“We have a strong bilateral cooperation with EU which is well aligned to our National priorities Government of Rwanda priorities. We are discussing ways in which the EU can be more involved in regional development initiatives,” Minister Gatete said.
EU’s 11th European Development Fund (EDF) approved last year saw an increase of more than 50% of resources committed compared to EDF 10th and 75% of EDF funds will be channeled through Sector Budget Support.
Mr. Mimica reiterated EU’s commitment to continue supporting Rwanda and the region stressing the importance of fostering peace and development for the betterment of the region.
