{The community of Rwandan Diaspora in France has donated four cows to Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) worth Rwf 2 million with the aim of supporting Girinka program. }
The event of handing the cows took place yesterday, for the third time since Girinka was introduced in 2006 to uplift Rwandans livelihoods.
The deputy director of RAB, Dr. Daphrose Gahakwa said that they are close to meeting the target in Girinka program provided that they have supporters including Rwanda’s Diaspora and members of the private sector.
“Rwanda’s Diaspora in France have given us 4 cows to support the Girinka program while the Private Sector Federation recently gave us Rwf 1.1 billion . We will achieve the performance targets in 2017,”she said.
Dr. Gahakwa explained that only 100,000 remained to be distributed before the Private Sector Federation and Rwanda’s Diaspora in France provided the support.
The representative of the delegation from Rwanda’s Diaspora in France, Theophile Rua called on other Rwandans to support the government programs including Girinka and value it as well.
“We saw the relevance of Girinka program among Rwandans and found a need to provide our contribution. A lot remains to be done and requires the participation of Rwanda’s Diaspora to join others in realizing the progress of the nation,” he said.
He said that they will deliberate further on how to contribute more until the targeted number of cows for distribution is attained.
