{The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, on January 14 officiated at the inauguration of a Police station built in Rusebeya Sector of Rutsiro District out of the financial support contributed by the residents.}
The Police station was constructed at a tune of Rwf27.5 million with about Rwf20 million being a contribution from Rusebeya residents and Rwf7.5 million by the district as part of their community policing activities.
The construction came at a time when Rwanda National Police is decentralizing police station down to the sector level to get closer to the people.
DIGP Marizamunda pointed out that, “the police post comes as part of finding own solutions to our challenges – – an initiative by President Paul Kagame that has fully been embraced by Rwandans.”
He went on to explain that security is a major pillar in development and thanked residents of Rusebeya and local leaders for their immense support to policing initiatives.
The station constructed from baked bricks, concrete, corrugated tin roofing, metallic doors and burglary proofed glass windows, is composed of offices, residential for policemen and separate male and female holding facilities.
The building is also connected with electricity.
“I have no doubt the services that police officers have been providing you will increase tremendously to the best of your expectation,” he said.
He went on to encourage residents of Rutsiro to keep up their bravery in fighting against criminality in their area saying that “the journey you went through in contributing to securing this area is highly appreciated and you should keep up the spirit.”
He further urged them to preserve Gishwati-Mukula National Park saying that if are well preserved they are bound to benefit a lot.
Gaspard Byukusenge, the mayor of Rutsiro said that the construction of a police post comes as part of community policing where residents partner with security organs in ensuring safety in their neighborhoods.
“This station is unbreakable bond between residents of Rusebeya and Rwanda National Police to contribute in fighting and preventing crimes with police officers close to them,” Byukusenge said.
Meanwhile, DIGP Marizamunda later met with hundreds of commissioned police officers operating in the Western Province as part of the RNP leadership countrywide tour to deliver President Paul Kagame’s New Year Message and evaluate the performance of territorial units, an exercise conducted at the beginning of every year.
He challenged the officers to double their efforts, be accountable, uphold professional values and perform their duties to the best of their expectation.
