Residents in Rusizi and Bukavu have requested for the border between the two countries to open Rusizi I border 24 hours as it recently happened to removal of night barriers of Rwanda and DRC border in Rubavu district to facilitate their trade and travels.
“It becomes complicated for a Rwandan to return late from sale of merchandise only to find the border closed. The cooperation would be eased if the situation is ameliorated like Rubavu case,”said Uwimpuhwe Claudette.
“We would cross the border whenever we wanted when the border was opened all time. We wish the border should be opened all the time to facilitate our movements,” said Martin Mwenja.
Butera Yves, the officer in charge of programs awareness in the office of immigration and emigration at Rusizi border said that their wishes will be attended to since leadership of both countries consider citizens’ desires.
“Leaders do every possibility to ensure free movement of citizens. Always, the immigration and emigration office wants the border to open full time but there are requirements to operate in such a way,” he said.
