Rusizi prison holding 75 inmates that claim to have completed sentences

{Rusizi prison is said to be accommodating 75 inmates who claim to have served and completed their jail sentences. }

Speaking on behalf of inmates in Rusizi prison, Sibomana Landouard addressed this issue to the DCGP of Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS), Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza as she visited the prison recently.

“75 inmates convicted of genocide crimes say they have completed their sentence but are not released. These include inmates who were jailed in former districts (commune). On some inmates’ files, the jail terms are not indicated,” he said.

Ujeneza said that she had requested the administration of Rusizi prison to follow up individual cases.

“I have instructed the administrators of the prison to follow up the cases of those who claim to have completed serving their sentences,” she said.

Rusizi prison accommodates 2,898 inmates a majority of whom are convicted of crimes committed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
