A maize and cassava flour grinding mill in Gahanga cell, Mururu sector of Rusizi district has caught fire, severely damaging the machinery, cassava and maize stocks and the stocks.
Munyantore Julien, the manager of Jya Mbere Gahinga cooperative which owns the mill told IGIHE that the cause of fire remains unknown but suspect to have been caused by electricity faults.
Police fire fighters intervened with fire extinguishers but many properties had already burnt to ashes.
The value of damaged properties has not been established yet.
Fire incidents became rampant in 2014 with most cases resulting from carelessness, old electrical installations and inadequate skills of people making electricity installations.
Last year, 100 fire cases were recorded across the country leaving six people dead and ravaged properties.
