{The German government has donated Euro 32.5 million (Rwf 30 billion) to the upgrading of Rusizi I and Rusizi II shared by Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. }
The statement issued by the German embassy in Rwanda indicates that the ambassador of Germany to Rwanda, Dr Peter Woeste and the executive secretary of CEPGL , Herman Tuyaga signed agreements.
The upgrading is expected to solve the problem of intermittent regional power supplies caused by power failure due to antiquated materials of the system.
Rusizi II electricity generation capacity has recently reduced from 43.6 Megawatts to 36 Megawatts due to a dilapidated system.
The upgrading is expected to cost Euro 85 million.
