{Rwanda Education Board (REB) has identified shortage of classrooms in Rusizi district as a looming challenge due to an increase in student and pupil enrolment, creating a need for construction of more facilities.}
This was revealed during the inauguration of seven new classrooms of Mihabura Primary School built with the support of Hands Around the World (HATW), an international NGO that supports schools, youth training centres and workshops providing education and training for vulnerable children and teenagers .
“The challenge of classrooms shortage exists and so there’s a need to construct new ones. The population growth in this part of the country is high, family planning is at a minimum and school enrollment has exponentially increased,” said Rutari Gerald, deputy director of quality education at REB.
Mihabura Primary School in Bugarama sector, the beneficiary of HATW, was constructed by ADEPR in 2000 and accommodates over 1,069 pupils.
Jean Sibomana, the spokesperson of ADEPR pledged continued support to the education sector.
“We are pleased to be of some support to education; an activity we have committed to as a church together with gospel preaching. It is vital to partner in the upbringing of Rwandan children through schools and health centers construction among others,” he said.
Some of children studying at Mihabura school say that the situation of studies will be improved since they have got new classrooms built in partnership with HATW volunteers
“Classrooms were muddy during rainy season and dusty in dry season. Now that the learning environment has been improved, our performance will follow suit,” said Uwingeneye Christine, a pupil of the school.
Over Rwf 40 was spent on the new constructed classrooms and a volley ball playground.
