{Executive secretaries of different sectors in Rusizi district have accused Umurenge Sacco cooperatives for submitting incomplete reports which results in failure to recover Sacco’s loans from borrowers.}
Rusizi district has 18 Umurenge Saccos which offered huge loans to borrowers some of who have failed to pay back.
For instance the accountant of Sacco in Nkungu sector reported to the acting executive secretary of Nkungu sector, Nikuze Béata a total of Rwf 2.5 million of un-recovered loans from borrowers yet the SACCO reported Rwf 23 million to National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) and to the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA).
“We have encountered a problem of non-performing loans. Sacco would report only Rwf 2.5 million of loans pending recovery while their stakeholders still hold Rwf 23 million of unpaid loans. .Such misreporting affected our performance contract where we committed to recovering offered loans while the amount of money was exceeding that, “said Nikuze Béata, the acting executive secretary of Nkungu sector.
Nzeyimana Jean Marie Vianney, the accountant of Umurenge Sacco in Nkungu sector confirmed to have reported to the sector a statement different from the one posted to BNR and RCA.
Harerimana Frederick, the mayor of Rusizi district advised accountants to provide reliable statements of accounts to sector heads and districts as they do to BNR and RCA.
