Rusizi: Deceptive repatriation repeated, 23 netted

{A total of 23 out of 85 refugees who repatriated yesterday in Rusizi district have been found to be playing deception games as they had returned to DRC but re-repatriated to Rwanda yesterday so they could get donations granted to refugees.}

The deceptive repatriation was realized as the repatriates were getting registered in Nyagatare provisional camp located in Rusizi district.

Out of 23, the 23 were cheating refugees are from Karongi district which has been coming on top in having the largest number of re-repatriations as confirmed by the leader of Nyagatare provisional camp, Haguma Ildephonse.

“Most cases of repeated re-repatriation are from Karongi residents.The majority of today’s refugees trying to cheat are from Karongi and Rubavu districts,” he said.

These cheating Rwandans return to Congo, change their names and come back as refugees attributing it to hunger while others say they return to Congo to call remaining families for repatriation.

The cases re-repatriation were realized after refugee camp administrators started using the electronic method of fingerprint while registering refugees which helps to track each one individually.

Haguma said that refugees found cheating yesterday will receive no support and will be responsible for their transport so that others having similar plans may get a lesson.
Yesterday’s cheating was preceded by the re-repatriation of other 52 refugees who were caught red handed as they returned to Rwanda for the second time.
