Rulindo residents sleep with animals in their houses

{Theft of domestic animals during night has forced residents of Cyungo sector, Rulindo district, to accommodate them (animals) inside their houses, triggering another risk of contracting disease. }

Talking to members of the press, the residents said that they are left with no option other than accommodating the animals inside their residences.

“No one can dare leave a domestic animal in the shed or kitchen overnight since thieves may steal them,” said one resident.

“Nothing is nowadays kept outside overnight. Even pigs are accommodated inside houses,” said another resident.

The citizens say that they conduct patrols but still thieves go behind them and steal animals and other properties. They however criticize the light punishment given in case a thief is caught red handed, saying most are released within a short time.

The governor of Northern province, Bosenibamwe Aimé, has however discouraged residents from sleeping with animals in their houses.

‘We requested all residents with cows to build communal cow shades to facilitate communal herding and breeding,” he said.
