Police Spokesperson in the Northern Province, CIP Hamdun Twizeyimana says that the suspect was caught following a tip-off from some residents.
“Bushoki Police Station got information that in RITCO bus from Musanze to Kigali, there were some people who might be carrying drugs. So, they blocked the road and searched the bus in which the man was caught with 9000 rolls of cannabis.” He said.
CIP Twizeyimana further urges conductors to be careful and remember to check passengers’ luggage because sometimes, they may be conveying drugs and related illegal substances without knowing.
“It is important that you ask them what is in their luggage and report them to security organs in case you are suspicious,” Twizeyimana recommended.
This suspect was handed over to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).
Article 263 in the revised penal code of Rwanda stipulates that any person who makes, grows, processes, sells, stores, shares, or sells drugs or a diversity of related medications against the law has committed a crime.
When found guilty of the crime, one is punished by a jail sentence from 7 years to life imprisonment, as well as the fines from Rwf20 million but not beyond Rwf30 million for highly potent drugs.
