Ruhango: Police woo transporters to fight crime

{Police in Ruhango District has asked transporters operating in the district to shun and fight all forms of criminality by reporting individuals that would want to use their means of transport to carry out their illegal activities.}

The District Police Commander of Ruhango, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Jean Bosco Ndayisaba, while meeting a cross-section representative of transport companies noted that in the recent past, transporters have been caught while abetting crimes such as transporting illegal drugs and smuggled goods.

“It is your duty as well to fight crime…to protect communities and the youth from psychotropic substances that surmount to other crimes, and protect businesses from illegal ones that are also likely to bring into the market substandard or hazardous products,” he said.

“By doing so, you are preserving and promoting safety and security, protecting the economy and contributing to development,” he added.

The DPC further noted that security also includes “responsible use of roads” and respecting traffic rules and regulations.

He outlined driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, bad maneuvers as some of the reckless habits of drivers that result into fatal accidents, and which they should do away with.
