{About 50 members of Rwandan Youth Volunteers in Community Policing Organisation (RYVCPO) from Rugerero Sector in Rubavu District have pledged to recommit more efforts in stamping out crimes in their area through encouraging their peers to desist from crimes and also foster collaboration with Rwanda National Police.}
They made the commitment during a meeting with the District Community Liaison Officer Inspector of Police (IP) Solange Nyiraneza who enlightened them about their role in crime prevention and how they can bring about change in their society if they serve as the bridge between the public and the law enforcement agencies.
During the meeting, IP Nyiraneza told members of RYVCPO that; “All crimes can be prevented or reduced if we actively work together to identify and apprehend those involved. Some of these wrongdoers are known in communities, that’s why we believe your contribution in crime prevention is crucial.”
She also urged them to reach out to their fellow youths that could be involved in drug related crimes, counsel them or report them to be rehabilitated.
They were also urged to form cooperative societies and start income generating activities.
“You can only achieve your goal of ensuring public safety through community policing; you have to always remind the public that ensuring security begins with an individual,” said IP Nyiraneza.
One of the RYVCPO members, John Bosco Rwibasira who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said that, “as members of RYVCPO from Rugerero sector, we recommit to fighting crimes in our society though close collaboration with security organs and providing timely information.”
He added that; “We will also focus mostly on the youth by encouraging them to keep away from crimes and report anyone they suspect to be a criminal.”
